The Popularity of Laser Eye Surgery in the UK

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

The UK has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to adopting new technologies into everyday life, and the past 20 years have seen Lasik laser eye surgery soar in popularity to become a common procedure for many people looking for freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

Around 100,000 people in the UK now have Lasik laser eye surgery to correct their vision each year, and this increased demand is seeing more clinics opening up across the nation to provide a local solution for convenient laser eye surgery in major towns and cities.

While providers continue their research and development into all areas of Lasik laser eye surgery, the treatments have come a long way since their early days and now boast a high success and recommendation rate across the country. The past five years in particular have seen the popularity of laser eye treatments boosted significantly, following the official endorsement by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in 2006 of LASIK's safety and effectiveness on suitably selected patients, particularly when compared to the greater risk of infection that comes from wearing contact lenses.

Today, Lasik laser eye surgery has advanced to the point that the majority of patients who choose a skilled provider can achieve vision superior to 20/20, depending on their prescription. The range of laser treatments has also expanded to offer alternatives for specific conditions - from the standard LASIK refractive procedure to LASEK eye surgery, which can be more effective at targeting affected areas.

Whether you're just looking for a free consultation to determine your suitability, or for treatment at laser eye surgery UK clinics, you can now find providers across the nation providing a local solution. If you're over 18 years of age and your prescription is stable, you can arrange a free laser eye consultation to find out more about your treatment options and decide whether laser eye surgery is right for you.

If you choose to go ahead with Lasik laser treatment in the UK, you'll find a number of clinics across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland staffed by experienced surgeons and the latest technology, meaning your treatment will be in safe hands when you choose a major provider. With LASIK surgery, you can even choose to have both eyes treated at the same time. The procedure is over quickly, in around 10 minutes, meaning it won't take time out of your day.

Lasik eye surgery cost The overcorrection explains a lot. When you are hyperopic (farsighted, longsighted) and presbyopic, you tend to have poor vision at all distances. Hopefully regression will resolve they hyperopia, and continued healing will resolve the other issues.
